Vertical machining center refers to the machining center whose spindle axis is perpendicular to the worktable, which is suitable for machining complex parts such as boards, plates, moulds and small shells. 

The vertical machining center can complete the processes of milling, boring, drilling, tapping and thread cutting. 

The vertical machining center is at least three-axis and two-linkage, which can generally realize three-axis and three-linkage. 

Some can carry out five-axis and six-axis control. 

The column height of the vertical machining center is limited, and the processing range of the box workpiece should be reduced, which is the disadvantage of the vertical machining center. 

But the vertical machining center workpiece clamping and positioning is convenient; the cutting tool trajectory is easy to observe, debugging program inspection and measurement is convenient, problems can be found in time, stop treatment or modification; cooling conditions are easy to establish, the cutting fluid can directly reach the tool and the machining surface; the three axes are consistent with the Cartesian coordinate system, the feeling is intuitive and consistent with the visual angle of the pattern, and the chips are easy to exclude and fall off to avoid scratching the machined surface. 

Compared with the corresponding horizontal machining center, the structure is simple, the area is smaller and the price is lower.
